Contact
The Association of County and City Councils is a membership body that provides research, training, and policy guidance to local authorities across England and Wales. If you have a question about membership, events, publications, or any of the resources on this website, you can reach us by email or post. We aim to respond to all enquiries within three working days, though complex questions may take longer if they require input from specialist staff or legal advisors. If your message is time-sensitive, please say so in the subject line so we can prioritise it accordingly.
For general enquiries, including questions about membership fees, upcoming conferences, or how to access members-only resources, email us at info@accc.org.uk. This inbox is monitored during office hours, Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays. If you are writing on behalf of a council, please include the name of your authority and your job title so we can direct your query to the right team. If you are a member of the public, a journalist, or a researcher, please make that clear as well. We handle different types of enquiry through different channels, and knowing who you are helps us respond more effectively.
If you have spotted an error on the website, including a broken link, a factual mistake, or outdated information, please use the same email address but put "Correction" in the subject line. Include the full URL of the page where the error appears and a clear description of what is wrong. If you are correcting a legal reference, a statistic, or a description of council powers, please tell us where you found the correct information so we can verify it. Anonymous correction reports are read, but we cannot always act on them without being able to ask follow-up questions. See our corrections policy for more detail on how we handle these requests.
For media enquiries, including requests for comment, interview opportunities, or background briefings on local government issues, email press@accc.org.uk. Please include your deadline, the name of your publication or broadcaster, and a short summary of the story you are working on. We can arrange interviews with our policy leads, provide written statements, or direct you to a member council that has agreed to speak to the press. We do not comment on individual council decisions unless they raise a point of general principle, and we do not provide legal advice to journalists. Our press office operates during standard office hours, but we can sometimes accommodate tight deadlines if you give us as much notice as possible.
If you are a councillor or council officer who needs technical advice on a specific issue, such as interpreting a piece of legislation, understanding a funding formula, or navigating a governance dispute, please email technical@accc.org.uk. This service is available to member councils only. Include your council name, your role, and a detailed description of the issue. Attach any relevant documents, such as committee reports, legal opinions, or correspondence with government departments. We will either answer your question directly or connect you with a specialist advisor. Please note that we cannot provide legal advice in the formal sense, but we can offer guidance based on sector practice and our reading of the law.
Our postal address is Association of County and City Councils, Local Government House, Smith Square, London, SW1P 3HZ. We prefer email for most enquiries because it is faster and allows us to send you links, attachments, and follow-up information more easily. However, if you need to send us a formal document, a signed membership application, or something that cannot be emailed, post is fine. Please include a cover letter with your contact details and a note explaining what you are sending and what you need from us. We cannot guarantee a response to anonymous letters.
If you wish to attend one of our events, subscribe to our newsletter, or access our members-only research library, you can register or log in through the website. If you have forgotten your password or are having trouble with your account, email support@accc.org.uk with your name and the email address you used to register. We will reset your access and send you new login details. If you are not yet a member but would like to join, visit the membership page for information on eligibility, fees, and benefits. Membership is open to county councils, unitary authorities, and certain categories of district council.
We welcome feedback on our publications, training courses, and website content. If you have suggestions for topics we should cover, formats that would be more useful, or ways we could improve our services, please let us know. We review feedback regularly and use it to shape our work programme. While we cannot respond individually to every suggestion, we do read everything that comes in. If you are willing to be contacted for follow-up research or user testing, please say so in your message. Your input helps us serve the sector more effectively.
